Irish photographer David Cantwell has won numerous awards. He was awarded the Irish Professional Photographers Association (IPPA) Royal & Sun Alliance Professional Photographer of the Year 2008 at the national photographic awards which were held in The Shelbourne Hotel Dublin Ireland on Sunday 13th January. The award is the premier professional photographic award and is in its 12th year. Chairman of the judges, Vincent O'Byrne FIPPA commented, "This year saw the highest number of entries ever for the national awards".
David swept the board at the awards by winning; Best Commercial Portfolio, Best Advertising Portfolio, Best Advertising Image and Best Classical Portrait. He won the overall award with his Advertising Portfolio of watches for client, Paul Sheeran Jewellers. [All award winning images can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnails below]
In 2007 David won Best Overseas Commercial & Advertising Image and Best Overseas Classical Portrait at the UK Master Photographers Association annual awards. At home, he also won Best Advertising Image, Best Advertising Portfolio, Best Children's Portrait Portfolio and Best Classical Portrait Image at the IPPA Royal & Sun Alliance national photographic awards.
In 2006 David won Overseas Commercial and Advertising Photographer of the Year 2006 at the British Master Photographers Association annual awards.
In 2005 he won four awards; Best Advertising Portfolio, Best Advertising Image, Best Commercial Portfolio and the coveted Bill Miller Award for most innovative photographer; at the IPPA National Photographic Awards.
In 2004 David also won the IPPA/Fujifilm Masterpiece Award. The Masterpiece Award was launched by the IPPA and is supported by Fuji Photo Film (Ireland). It is open to professional photographers throughout Ireland and recognises photographic excellence in four distinct categories; Commercial Photography, Portrait Photography, Wedding Photography and General Photography.
David won the Commercial Category with his image of a menu from the Osborne Restaurant in the Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links and went on to win the overall award.
David also won Best Commercial Portfolio at the IPPA National Photographic Awards 2004. He also won his Associateship Award, Craftsman Award at this prestigious event which was held in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin
